TBILISI (MŽP Gruzie) - Local population and investors will be able to use the slate stone for constructions. The First Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, Mr Teimuraz Murgulia introduced the draft law on amendments in Law of Georgia "On the creation and management of Tusheti, Batsara-Babaneuri, Lagodekhi and Vashlovani protected areas" to the Parliamentary Committee for the first reading.

The amendments in the law are caused as currently the legislation allows to use slate stone only for limited agricultural activities in Tusheti Protected Areas. The draft law doesn't allow to use slate stone in Tusheti protected landscape. However, slate stone is used for construction of residential buildings and is essential material for the investors to build tourist infrastructure. Historically, slate stone was used for construction in order not to violate the unique landscape of Tusheti protected areas. The draft law aims to respond the demands of the investors and local population about using natural resources (slate stone) for construction that will maintain and protect historical architecture of Tusheti.
